Reading Firefighters Local 1803 President Mike Shoumlisky, and Jason Batz appear during the 2011 MDA Telethon. The firefighters have raised over $9,000 this year, and are hoping to double that amount on October 7th during their Fall Boot Drive.

Seven members of the Reading Fire Department recently traveled to the City of Chicago to support the Philadelphia Phillies and visit the Chicago Fire Department. The members toured the City, and visited Station 78 just outside Wrigley Field.

On Wednesday June 15th, firefighters traveled to the Variety Club Camp in Worcester PA to cook dinner for the 175 campers at the MDA summer camp. Each year IAFF Locals are invited to participate in cooking a meal at the camp to compete for the "Silver Spatula" award.

Congratulations to Firefighter Robert Weber, on 34 years of service to the Reading Fire Department. Bob was hired on May 23, 1977. After completing training, Bob was assigned to Ambulance 97, with David Connors on the newly formed D platoon.

Congratulations to PHRN Michael Sninsky & EMT-P Christopher Bixler on completing NFPA 1001 Firefighter I. The certification is nationally recognized as the most basic form of firefighter training. The firefighters took the training & test at the Allentown Fire Academy.

Reading Firefighters C platoon stepped to the plate on Friday, holding their boots out to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy. The Fill The Boot campaign is one of 3 scheduled for this year to meet our commitment of $18,000 for the MDA.

Thanks to a tip from a South-East Reading resident, a juvenile was caught this morning after setting a fire in an alley. The information was received right after fire crews left the scene, early this morning.

Congratulations to Frank Lewalski on 31 years of service to the Reading Fire Department. Frank was hire on March 17th of 1980. After training, Frank was assigned to the B platoon as a jumper. In 1981, Firefighter Lewalski took assignment as the driver of Engine 12 on the same platoon.
