Congratulations to Firefighter Donny Marks on his retirement after 36 years of service to the City of Reading.
Donny started as a volunteer firefighter in Reading on March 3rd of 1985, and was hired by the city on April 18th, 1994. Upon completion of the Fire Academy in October of 1994, he was assigned to the D platoon as a jumper. In April of 1995 he was re-assigned to Engine 14 FF on the D platoon. In July of 1995, Donny was awarded his bid on Engine 11 FF on the C platoon where he stayed until bidding the same spot on B platoon in June of 2003. In 2008 Donny bid back to the C platoon as Ladder 3 driver and in 2011 he bid back to the B platoon as Engine 3 driver. Donny moved to Ladder 1 driver on the C platoon in May of 2016 where he worked until his final shift on April 26, 2021. Donny was very active with the Local 1803 firefighter's union where he served as a trustee for 17 years. Donny also received a life saving award for his actions performed on a specific emergency call during his career.
